A moon moth (aka a luna moth)….Love the face on his wings! Did you know that a moon moth does not eat or even have a mouth, they live only a week and their only purpose is to breed.
HUGE! I have never seen them in our butterfly house, and they said they just started breeding them, apparently it is tricky to do (and then they don’t last long). I have never seen one in the wild.
I thought the antennae collected pollen (what would I know). Lucky Girl to get this, all of the silkworm family are interesting, but this is the most interestingest!
The markings are amazing and I love the frilly antennae too. We had one of these at the cottage once. They’re enormous, right?

As a child, I always wanted to see a luna moth. I finally did see one some 30 years ago–they are gorgeous.
